Livinha Souza wants to fight Maycee Barber

The former Invicta FC strawweight champion has her sights set on a fellow rising star.

Souza (12-1) made an emphatic debut in the UFC after a successful run in Invicta by finishing Alex Chambers in the first round.

Now, with her debut out of the way, Souza is looking forward to making a name for herself in a talent-stacked division.

Speaking to MMA Fighting, Souza says, “I want to fight Maycee Barber. She was asking for a fight, she’s coming off a win.”

While Souza would love to fight on the upcoming Fortaleza, Brazil, card, she is ready for anyone, ‘anywhere’.

Having only fought one of her 13 pro bouts in her home country of Brazil, Souza hopes for the opportunity again. “Bring her, or any other girl, to fight me in my hometown, or anywhere else,” Souza said. “Whatever the UFC wants, I’m in, but if I could choose, I really want to fight here and get more intimacy with the Brazilian audience. It was incredible to fight here. I’m sure I’ll give the Brazilian people more joy in the sport.”

She added, “I will give my life to do at least one percent of the history that the old generation has done, and, if possible, win more belts, and put the sport where it belongs, at the top. We have to prove we’re talented, that Brazil is a country of warriors. If they come here thinking that we’re dead, we’ll prove them wrong.”

        1. I think it’d be a great fight! I think I’d have to lean on the side of experience though and agree with you in Souza winning it. At least at this point in their careers.
