Saturday night at King of the Cage: Counterstrike, Melissa “Magic” Karagianis defeated Andy Nguyen via unanimous decision to capture the atomweight world championship. The judges scored the fight 48-46, 48-47 and 49-45, all in favor of Karagianis.
Karagianis improves her record to 3-2-0. She holds a previous win over Nguyen, back in 2015 by way of a split decision. Prior to joining the sport of MMA, “Magic” had great success in the sport of muay thai. She cites UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk as one of her major influences.
Nguyen’s record falls to 5-4-0, with Karagianis successfully snapping her three-fight win streak. She is set to compete at the October 15 RIZIN FF event against Rena Kubita,
