Top bantamweight contender Ketlen “Fenomeno” Vieira has been forced to withdraw from her upcoming bout in Brazil versus Tonya Evinger due to injury.
Vieira (10-0) has gone 4-0 in the promotion since debuting. She is most recently coming off a decision win over Cat Zingano at UFC 222 in March. Her fight against Evinger likely could have determined the next bantamweight title challenger, when Amanda Nunes returns to the division.
The bout was scheduled for Sept. 22, in Vieira’s home country of Brazil.
Vieira revealed the injury to be a knee injury that will require surgery.
“I’m really upset,” Vieira told reporters. “God knows how much I wanted to fight. I’ve cried a lot, but I accept God’s decisions. If he wanted this, I accept it. just want to recover as soon as possible and be able to come do what I love.”
