Katlyn Chookagian vs. Jessica Andrade targeted for Oct. 17

An exciting flyweight matchup is in the works for an upcoming Fight Night.

First reported by MMA Junkie, former strawweight champ Jessica Andrade (20-8) is expected to make her 125-pound debut versus former flyweight title challenger Katlyn Chookagian (14-3).

“Bate Estaca” last competed at UFC 251 in July, losing a split-decision to Rose Namajunas in a highly anticipated rematch. The former champ is on a two-fight skid for the first time in her career.

“Blonde Fighter” bounced back from an unsuccessful title bid against Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 247 with a dominant decision over the champ’s sister, Antonina, in May.

  1. Interesting move here by Andrade moving up to 125. Quite possibly the faster way to a title shot. Most strawweights she’s faced before are breathing a sigh of relief or asking why she didn’t move a lot sooner.

    1. I was quite surprise to see this fight announced! I’ve got Katlyn winning this one.

I thought that Andrade was in a good place at strawweight despite coming off a loss to Rose. With much of the ranked contenders tied up, she could have slid into a title rematch with just one win.

1 – Rose: No timeline, recovering
      2 – Andrade
3 – Tatiana: Not ready to return, recovering
      4 – JJ: No timeline

6 – Claudia: Booked vs. Yan
7 – Carla: Rumored to be booked vs. Ribas
8 – Michelle: Booked vs. Hill
      9 – Marina Rod
10 – Yan: Booked vs. Gadelha
      11 – Tecia
12 – Ribas: Rumored to be booked vs. Esparza
13 – Hill: Booked vs. Waterson
      14 – Jandiroba
15 – Dern: Booked vs. Markos
