Katlyn Chookagian set to be the backup fighter for UFC 230 main event between Valentina Shevchenko and Sijara Eubanks

Katlyn Chookagian is set to be the official backup fighter for the upcoming UFC 230 main event between Valentina Shevchenko and Sijara Eubanks for the vacant UFC flyweight title on November 3.

Chookagian is the official backup for UFC 230 main event.

As confirmed by Ariel Helwani earlier today, if either Shevchenko or Eubanks are unable to fight in November, Chookagian will step in and challenge for the 125-pound belt. The 29-year-old is ranked number-three in the UFC rankings and number-two in the WMMA World Rankings. Also known as the ‘Blonde Fighter’, Chookagian is undefeated at 125-pounds and owns UFC victories over the likes of Alexis Davis, Lauren Murphy and Irene Aldana. Prior to joining the UFC, she earned a notable 2015 unanimous decision win over the title challenger, Sijara Eubanks.

WMMA World Rankings

UFC 230 headlined by Shevchenko vs. Eubanks takes place on November 3 from the Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York, United States. The main card airs at 10pm EST, live on pay-per-view.

  1. This would not have been necessary if the UFC had properly prepared for the Valentina/Nicco fight. Since Katlyn beat Sijara, and had volunteered to step in for Nicco, I would’ve thought she should have had the option to face Valentina for the title, especially since Sijara had previously missed weight for a title fight and was already booked.
