Katlyn Chookagian says Nicco Montano “said no” to fighting her in December

Top flyweight contender Katlyn Chookagian isn’t sure that former flyweight champion Nicco Montano will be back in the Octagon anytime soon following the events of UFC 228.

Last month at UFC 228, Montano was slated to face Valentina Shevchenko in her first title defense. Medical issued forced Montano to withdraw from the fight the day before and the belt was subsequently vacated.

Shevchenko, who will meet Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the vacant flyweight title belt at UFC 231 in Toronto, voiced that she did not think Montano would “ever fight again”.

Now, weeks out from 228, the number three ranked “Blonde Fighter” agrees with the “Bullet”. She also claimed via Twitter that Montano turned down a fight with her in December.

Is this a fight you would like to see happen?

  1. Had her people saying they were down to fight A-Shev next and would be ready in case AES fell out… but rejects an actual fight offer for the following month? Big ol’ chin rub… πŸ€”

    1. Nicco’s body betrayed her. Maybe the quick pace of fights in TUF overclocked her easily damaged body. She has mentioned arthrits in her foot, meanwhile valentina dances a million steps a year on variety shows oh yeah and fights ufc. Hard indestructible russian body. Nicco was wise to turn down the kaitlin fight, because she can’t count on her body to be in working shape 2 months from now.

    2. yes. she even said she doesn’t know if she wants to stay in the UFC. that says it all really. either way, she doesn’t want to be a fighter right now. they may as well let her go.

  2. Training camps are usually around 6 weeks, so this would be close to 8 to 10 weeks. And Nicco Montano profession is being a MMA fighter, so how long would you suggest she needs to prepare for a MMA fight?
