Karolina Kowalkiewicz ready for Jessica Andrade in September: “It will be really tough fight, but I like challenge”

Karolina Kowalkiewicz returns to the cage on September 8 to battle Jessica Andrade at the UFC 228 pay-per-view event.

Kowalkiewicz hoping for a second shot at UFC strawweight title with win over Andrade.

Kowalkiewicz (12-2) will be looking to build on a two-fight win streak after taking out Felice Herrig and Jodie Esquibel. The 32-year-old is the last woman to have defeated reigning strawweight champion Rose Namajunas, a split decision at the UFC 201 event in July of 2016. A victory over the powerful Brazilian in Andrade could earn Kowalkiewicz a shot at Namajunas’ strawweight title.

The 32-year-old says she isn’t surprised to be matched up against Andrade, in fact she wanted to fight her.

No (I wasn’t surprised to get the fight),” Kowalkiewicz told MMAjunkie. “Because I want the fight with her. I can’t wait.”

Kowalkiewicz isn’t intimitdated by Andrade, a woman who has destroyed the likes of Claudia Gadelha, Tecia Torres, Joanne Calderwood and Jessica Penne.

I like the pressure,” Kowalkiewicz said. “I know she’s a great fighter, very, very tough. It will be really tough fight, but I like challenge.”

  1. Dang, lady. Be careful what you wish for. I’ll be rooting for her but will be pleasantly surprised if she prevails.

  2. if she likes it so much why was she super reluctant when she responded to the call out after edging out Jodie Esquibel (which was supposed to be a layup in her own back yard)? and why did she pull out sick, but make another fight with Herrig the same day she pulled from the Andrade fight, which was over 2 months away at that time? enough games with this sneaky silent type. either fight her or just move along and hope you get a title shot via an easier path.

    1. oh, Mr. Glass. You’re wrong here and on the other site :). She did not “edge out” Jodie. It was pretty decisive.

      1. ah you… round 2 was the only “decisive”round. that fight was alot more competitive than i thought it would be, and more than it should have been.
