After two scrapped bouts, UFC 216 will still feature women’s flyweight action.
Paige VanZant vs Jessica Eye was originally scheduled for this weekend’s UFC 216 card, however, a slew of injuries forced VanZant out of the bout. In hopes of rescheduling the fight, Jessica Eye was removed from the card as well. Shortly after the removal, flyweight standout Andrea “KGB” Lee was set to make her UFC debut against Kalindra Faria on short notice. Less than one day after the announcement of KGB’s UFC debut, issues with USADA removed Lee from the card.
After much uncertainty, a women’s flyweight fight will take place. Kalindra Faria (18-5-1) will face Mara Romero Borella (11-4, 1 NC) on UFC 216’s main card.
Both fighters are making their UFC debuts on short notice. Faria is currently riding a three-fight win streak, with her last victory in September of last year over Carina Damm. Of her 18 career victories, seven come by way of KO/TKO, and five by way of submission.
Borella last fought in July, where she headlined Invicta FC 24 with a winning effort against former UFC bantamweight Milana Dudieva. Borella owns three KO/TKO’s and four submissions to her record.
