Kailin Curran meets Xiaonan Yan at #UFCShanghai in November

A women’s strawweight bout has been added to UFC Shanghai on November 25th in Shanghai, China.

MMA-Today.com (@MMATodayNews) reported earlier today via Twitter that strawweight Kailin Curran (4-5) will return to the octagon in enemy territory to take on UFC newcomer Xianon “Fury” Yan (7-1-1).

Curran has suffered losses in five of her last six bouts. She was last seen in action at UFC 214 in a FOTN-worthy performance against undefeated strawweight Alexandra Albu.

Chinese prospect Yan last fought in November in a bout that was ruled a no contest due to an accidental head clash. She has competed for ROAD FC. Of Yan’s seven victories, five come by way of KO/TKO. “Fury” is UFC’s first female signee from China.

  1. Gee, Nick, you must not have had your coffee this morning. It’s not often you misspell both fighters’ names in a headline.

It will be interesting to see how a good Asian fighter matches up with our own. Kailin’s record doesn’t look good, but she always brings it and her fights are exciting. I hope the UFC keeps regardless of the outcome. It’s too bad Xiaonon’s last fight with Emi Fujino was stopped with a head butt in the first round. It would have given us a much better idea as to how good she is. The Chinese strawweight that the UFC should bring on, if One Championship doesn’t beat them to it, is Weili Zhang, who coincidentally has beaten Xiaonon and is on about a 14 fight win streak.

    1. You were correct! Thank you for that. I posted from my phone this morning, in an attempt to get the news out timely, but I will definitely be more careful! Thanks for reading! 🙂

  2. Thanks for responding, Nick. For some reason, I wasn’t notified of your reply despite clicking, ” Notify me of follow-up comments by email.” In fact, I rarely am, if ever, notified of replies – maybe because I get none. On another note, have you heard anything about the results of Weili Zhang’s fight at Kunlun Fight MMA 15? It was Tuesday and I was surprised that I have seen no results to date.

    1. Hey there Juchi! To be completely honest with you, I do not know a ton about Zhang’s last fight. In the past I have primarily focused on UFC, Bellator, and Invicta, but as I continue to learn I am realizing how great some organizations and other talent there is out there! I will def look into it! BTW, I will keep you posted but there is a report that Zhang is in talks with the UFC. It looks like they’re trying to pick her up and book her for UFC in Shanghai.
