Juliana Lima spent time out of the cage competing in grappling tournaments and teaching jiu-jitsu after she was featured on Invicta FC’s Phoenix Series 1.
The former UFC strawweight returns to the cage on Thursday night, as she clashes with Emily Ducote at Invicta FC 40.
“I fought a lot of grappling championships last year after the Invicta tournament. I feel great and grateful for having an opportunity to fight during these crazy days, I have a winner’s mindset.”
Lima focused on improving her ground as she competed at the IBJJF Houston Winter Open, Third Coast Grappling and Submission Hunter Pro. She wanted to solely focus on her ground game as took time off from MMA.
Besides competing in Jiu-Jitsu, she taught classes at Gracie Barra and the UFC Gym. Teaching her students brings out a different perspective of martial arts for her.
“Believe it or not I learn when I teach BJJ, Muay Thai, and MMA,” Lima said. “I don’t do it for money, I do it because I love to teach. I love my students and I love to fight.”
Lima’s last action took place at Invicta FC’s Phoenix Series. She defeated Danielle Taylor in the quarterfinals via split decision and lost in the semifinals by unanimous decision to Brianna Van Buren.
The Brazilian strawweight will take on the former Invicta FC strawweight challenger on Thursday night, the fight card starts at 8 p.m. ET on UFC Fight Pass.
