Julia Budd set to make first title defense against Arlene Blencowe

Bellator featherweight champion Julia Budd will make her first title defense in Thackerville, Oklahoma, on December 1st against Arlene “Angergfist” Blencowe.

“The Jewel” Budd (10-2) stopped WMMA pioneer Marloes Coenen in the fourth round of Bellator 174’s main event in March to claim the inaugural title. She currently rides an eight-fight win streak.

Blencowe (10-6) enters the championship fight off a split decision victory over Sinead Kavanagh in August. She rides a three-fight win streak.

This will be the second time that Blencowe faces Budd. The two previously fought in October of 2016 at Bellator 162. Budd defeated Blencowe via majority decision.

  1. While I realize that their last fight was close and that Arlene is on a 3 fight win streak, all 3 of those fights, I believe, were at 135. In the meantime, Julia looks much more impressive than when she last fought Arlene. I’m hoping that it’s a much more competitive fight than I’m imagining.

  2. Well, we all know what Julia Budd wants to do and in Bellator, only seem to be capable of doing, and that is lock her opponents up and over power them for a takedown. Arlene Blencowe did the typical losing fighter speech of saying she wasn’t 100% healthy when she fought Julia Budd the first time and if they fought again that she would beat Julia Budd. Well, Arlene Blencowe has her chance. Intriguing fight because Arlene Blencowe is definitely better on the feet and Julia Budd is so bad on her feet that her opponents get comfortable and leave big openings for Julia Budd to get takedowns. I definitely will be checking this fight out.
