Jozette Cotton‘s first defense of her lightweight world title is being targeted for the Dynasty Combat Sports event on December 9 at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska. There is no word yet on who the opponent will be.
Cotton (7-1-0) made history this past Friday night, defeating Sarah Patterson by way of a unanimous decision to become the first ever women’s lightweight champion. The 29-year-old was overcome with emotion following the big victory. After remaining undefeated and dominating the lightweight division for many years, she suffered a huge upset loss to Bobbi-Jo Dalziel last October, prompting an almost one-year layoff. A rematch with Dalziel is no doubt a fight which could be highly likely for Cotton’s first title defense.
Cotton’s victory garnered a lot of attention on social media over the weekend and was the number-one viewed topic on WMMA Rankings. It seems the Dynasty Combat Sports organization are happy with their newly crowned champion and feel confident enough to put her on their biggest card of the year on December 9. The Pinnacle Bank Arena holds a 15,500 seating capacity and has hosted some of the biggest events in combat sports history, including Terence “Bud” Crawford’s recent defense of his WBC, WBO, WBF, IBF and The Ring light welterweight titles
