Joanna Jedrzejczyk doesn’t want Waterson fight to be cancelled, will attempt to make strawweight limit after all

Joanna Jedrzejczyk does not want Saturday’s UFC Tampa main event against Michelle Waterson to be cancelled and will attempt to make the 116-pound strawweight limit after all.

Former UFC strawweight champion Jedrzejczyk will attempt to make strawweight limit after all.

Jedrzejczyk recently informed the UFC that she would not be able to make the 116-pound strawweight limit for this Saturday’s UFC Tampa main event against Michelle Waterson. After it was made clear that Waterson’s team would not be willing to accept a catchweight, putting the main event in jeopardy, Jedrzejczyk will instead do her best to make the weight.

Ariel Helwani from ESPN was the first to reveal the news.

I’m told Joanna Jędrzejczyk had a good workout this AM and does not want the fight to get canceled. After it was made clear Team Waterson was not interested in a catchweight, JJ has decided to do everything — within reason — to make 116. She‘ll be at open workout later today.” Helwani said.

  1. I don’t know how the current situation will sort out, but Joanna should move to flyweight for the sake of both her health and professional reputation.
