Jessica Eye will make her debut in the UFC’s newly minted flyweight division this Sunday when she takes on Kalindra Faria in the featured bout of UFC Fight Night 124 early prelims.
Eye (11-6-0, 1 NC) returns to a division which she dominated prior to signing with the UFC back in 2013. The 31-year-old is confident she will be a champion in this weight-class and believes fans are in for a “shock” when they see the type of fighter she is when matched up against girls her own size.
“I feel like I am getting a new fresh start,” Eye told MMA Weekly. “I’m very excited about this. It’s crazy because I thought I’d never be able to make 125 again and now I’m feeling the best I ever have and it’s because I really want this. I want to prove to myself, to others, to my team, I want to be like Stipe [Miocic], I want to be a champion and I want to win the title in the weight class that best suits me.”
“I’m very excited to show that I’m much more than what I’ve shown,” Eye said. “Because now I’m going to be fighting in the weight class where I belong. I know what I’m capable of and I know what I’m capable of at 125. I don’t think others know and I like that. It will be a really big shocker for them. Let’s see what I do at 125. Let them see how great I am.”
UFC Fight Night 124 takes place this Sunday January 14 from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. The early prelims featuring Faria vs. Eye will be aired live on UFC Fight Pass from 6pm ET.
