Jessica Andrade wants strawweight title fight versus Rose Namajunas at UFC 232

Jessica Andrade wasted little time after her knockout victory over Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC 228 to call out the reigning champion in her weight class.

Andrade (19-6) immediately challenged Strawweight champion Rose Namajunas to a fight at UFC 232. Their fight would most certainly be the co-main under the superfight main event between Featherweight champion Cris Cyborg and Bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes.

She reiterated the challenge via her Instagram account:

  1. No other fight will do. Andrade had better spend that bonus money nice and slowly, and sit and wait for that title shot. I like Rose a lot, but in light of the fact she’s not actually had (or having?) any surgery I can’t work out how it is she’s getting to stay away until early 2019 as some MMA folks are reporting nowadays…

    1. I am not a big supporter of interim titles, but do you think it is possible there is an interim title fight between Andrade and Suarez if Rose remains out for an extended time?

      1. I mean, all things are possible in the Ultimate Fighting Circus… I think I have ‘interim fatigue’ as much as anyone else, but if Jessica is made to fight again just to retain her spot it’ll be pretty clear she’s getting shafted; Suarez shouldn’t be in contention quite yet, although she’s unarguably en route. But in the absence of medical procedure, I’d be looking sideways at Rose too if that were to happen — however much better she could be for healing longer, you’ve gotta at least be better than you WERE, surely? Nobody fights at 100% health, so that’d look real suspicious…

      2. Personally, I’m not that set against interim titles. To me, it’s a clear way of establishing who the champ’s next opponent is going to be if they are out for an extended period. It beats holding up the division while the champ “recovers.” In this case, it depends on how long Andrade, who I feel is the #1 contender, wants to wait. If Rose can’t fight until next year and Jessica wants to establish who Rose’s next opponent will be sooner than that, let’s make Andrade/Suarez happen. With the exception of JJ, who won’t be available for quite some time as well, hasn’t Andrade beat just about all the other top 5 contenders ?

        1. yes, Andrade has basically ran through the top 5 and it would be absurd to make her wait or keep fighting down. either shit or get off the pot as they say. Rose needs to book a defense vs Andrade or the UFC needs to reevaluate their title situation at strawweight. of course it’s still early to be talking about stripping the belt, but i do not see the point in an interim title at 115. no sense having someone who isn’t gonna be active hold up the belt. if it isn’t serious enough for surgery than there’s no reason she needs to sit home for a year. health is paramount, but nobody is 100% in the cage.

  2. She’ll have to wait for a long time. Rose is not injured, hasn’t gotten surgery, claims to be traumatized and that she can’t leave her house. So unless Jessica goes to her house and beat her up, she’ll probably get Suarez, and then Joanna, and then Gadelha, so on and so forth until she’s out of title contention. Namajunas wants NOTHING of Andrade.
