The UFC was unable to find a replacement opponent to face Jessica Aguilar at UFC Fight Night in Austin, TX, this weekend.
Aguilar, the former WSOF 115-pound champion, was originally slated to face the former Invicta FC strawweight champion, Livinha Souza. Souza, who was making her long-awaited UFC debut, was forced to pull out of the matchup last week due to a hand injury.
UFC officials told MMA Fighting that they are looking to reschedule the strawweight contest either at UFC Fight Night in Orlando on Feb. 24 or at UFC 222 pay per view in Las Vegas on Mar. 3. Guilherme Cruz of Souza’s team says they are awaiting medical clearance and believe that Mar. 3 will be a good date for her return.
Commenting on the fight cancellation, Aguilar spoke to MMA Fighting: “Everything happens for a reason. You always see the good in things, even when it’s not a good situation. It will help you stay focused and overcome whatever it is you are going through. I appreciate all the support from my fans, and excited to show that I’m still one of the top fighters in my division.”
