Last night, at Invicta FC: Phoenix Rising Series 3, the bantamweight division took center stage.

The third Phoenix Series tournament took place– this time in the bantamweight division. UFC featherweight Megan Anderson and MMA
UFC’s Roxanne Modafferi was in attendance to corner her Syndicate MMA teammate Serena DeJesus.

Though the reserve bout winners weren’t needed to step
Kay Hansen used a versatile wrestling-heavy attack to defeat Liana Pirosin by unanimous decision. This bout made history by becoming the first major promotion MMA bout to utilize an open scoring system.
Former UFC featherweight champ Max Holloway was in attendance to witness the history– he has been a vocal supporter of open scoring in MMA.
Taneisha “Triple Threat” Tennant’s counterstriking led her to victory in both the quarter and semifinals.
In the tournament finals, Taneisha Tennant defeated Taylor Guardado by unanimous decision to win the tournament.
Finally, in the night’s main event, TUF 28 competitor Julija Stoliarenko defeated Lisa “Battle Angel” Versoza to become the Invicta FC bantamweight champion in an instant-classic, five-round war.
Both Stoliarenko and Versoza were busted up by the third round. A step-in superman elbow by Julija opened a large cut on Versoza in the third.
The canvas was painted red by the end of the fight.
