Today on the MMA Hour, Invicta FC president Shannon announced that Invicta FC 25 in August will feature two championship matches. In the main event, bantamweight contender Yana Kunitskaya (9-3, 1 NC) will take on Raquel Pa’aluhi (6-5) for the vacant Invicta FC bantamweight championship. The title was vacated by longtime champ Tonya Evinger, as she has signed with the UFC to face Cris Cyborg at UFC 214.
Kunitskaya debuted in Invicta a few months ago, submitting Tonya Evinger via first round arm bar– the decision was overturned and reversed and a rematch was scheduled. Kunitskaya lost the subsequent rematch with Evinger, but now with the title vacant she will get another opportunity to capture the belt. Pa’aluhi comes into the bout with a first round rear naked choke submission over Pannie Kinzaid. She has one three of her for bouts in Invicta.
The co-main event of the evening will see former strawweight champion Livia Renata Souza (10-1) face TUF alum Jodie Esquibel (6-2) for the vacant strawweight title. Souza is a former Invicta champion, who lost the belt to UFC strawweight Angela Hill last summer. Hill later vacated the belt to resign with the UFC, opening the door for Souza to reclaim the belt she once held. Esquibel comes into the fight off a split-decision victory over former title challenger DeAnna Bennett. Esquibel trains at Jackson-Wink MMA in New Mexico. She competed on TUF, and she has won four out of her six fights in Invicta.
Invicta FC 25 takes place at the Tachi Palace in Lemoore, California on August 31st. The entire card will be available for live streaming on UFC Fight Pass.
