Injury forces Valerie Loureda out of Bellator 238

The recently announced flyweight contest between taekwando specialist Valerie Loureda and Bellator newcomer Tara Gaff has been canceled.

First reported by MyMMANews, an undisclosed injury has forced the WMMA Rankings 2019 Newcomer of the Year to withdraw from Bellator 238 on Jan. 25.

Loureda (2-0) signed with Bellator in November 2018. She made her debut the following year, going 2-0 in 2019 with one TKO and one decision victory.

  1. Scott Coker and Bellator matchmaker Rich Chou are pathetic with their crap. We’ve seen when the supposedly “can” gets injured and has to pull out of a fight, example MVP vs Derek Anderson, Bellator replaces said “can” with another “can” as fodder for the fighter Bellator wants to build, example Derek Anderson getting replaced by Gianni Melillo. But when said fighter Bellator wants to build has to pull out of a fight due to injury, Valeria Loureda, Scott Coker and Rich Chou, scraps even putting in any effort to find a replacement opponent to fight Tara Gaff because apparently “cans” aren’t worth the professional effort to try to find an opponent for. As if Tara Gaff didn’t need the fight pay in order to help her financially and as if Tara Gaff did not want to make a chance to try to make a name for herself on the MMA landscape. Straight Bush league by Scott Coker and Rich Chou.

  2. I hope a 33 year old professional fighter that has a record of 1-1, isn’t relying on fight purses. I agree it’s Busch league but this fight was a joke and there was no reason this should of been scheduled.

  3. But that 33 year old fighter has training fees that she would have paid off much more easier with her fight purse. And she is a 33 year old fighter chasing her dream and probably with the mindset of hoping to get to position to earning bigger fight purses from a major MMA promotion than what any regional promotion pays. So yes, it’s still bush league that Bellator President Scott Coker and Bellator matchmaker Rich Chou did not even give the professional attempt to find an opponent at Catchweight for Tara Gaff. And we know Bellator is the King of Catchweight fights in the Scott Coker era.

  4. It’s Loureada’s third pro fight– she’s got tons of potential and is highly marketable. They are building her up slowly. This matchmaking makes sense this early in her pro career!
