ICYMI: Heather Hardy brings the heat, defeats Shelly Vincent to win WBO featherweight title

Last weekend, in the second ever HBO televised women’s boxing bout, Heather “The Heat” Hardy defeated rival Shelly Vincent for the second time to claim the WBO featherweight championship.

After ten entertaining rounds, Hardy won the scorecards. Judges scored the bout 97-93, 97-93, and 99-91. This fight was a rematch to their 2016 hotly contested Fight of the Year, which Hardy one by decision.

Hardy improved her unbeaten boxing record to 22-0, 4 KOs while Vincent fell to 23-2, 1 KO– with both of Vincent’s losses coming from Hardy.

Hardy is currently under contract with Bellator MMA. Her dual contract allows her to compete in both MMA and boxing, however, she has said she will only return to boxing for world championship bouts.

  1. Truly an awesome fight. Great back and forth with Shelly throwing more and Heather connecting more. The announcers were going nuts. And their first fight was even better. Being shown as a co-main event on HBO was great exposure for Heather and should greatly enhance her marketability. Previously she was making more for a non-title Bellator MMA fight than she was for any of her boxing matches. I have a feeling that will have changed after this last event.

    Jady Menezes (C) VS Anissa Meksena in a title rematch tomorrow. The decision in the first one was quite controversial. Looking forward to this rematch.
