Heavyweight bout between Gabi Garcia and Barbara Nepomuceno set for RIZIN 14 on December 31

A women’s heavyweight bout between Gabi Garcia and Barbara Nepomuceno has been set for the RIZIN 14 event on December 31.

Garcia returns on December 31.

Garcia (5-0, 1 NC) is a multiple-time BJJ world champion who made the transition to MMA in late 2015. The 33-year-old Brazilian has been cleaning out the women of her division, having successfully finished the likes of Lei’D Tapa, Anna Maliukova, Veronika Futina and Destanie Yarbrough.

Nepomuceno (0-0) is a multiple-time WGP 185-pound kickboxing world champion. The 28-year-old trains at Team Big G with highly acclaimed head coach, Augusto Nasser. In 2015 she came second in the Kickboxing World Championships, with the 6″5ft heavyweight competitor, Katya Kavaleva, taking first place. Nepomuceno has made it known for quite sometime that she would like to someday fight Gabi Garcia in MMA.

RIZIN 14 takes place on December 31 from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

  1. This should be the most competitive fight Gabi has had to date, even though Barbara is much shorter w/no professional MMA experience. As long as she stays out of Gabi’s clutches, she has a chance.
