Saturday night at Gateway Fighting Series 8, Sarah Patterson submitted the returning Tamikka Brents in the very first round, following a rear-naked choke.
Patterson improves her record to 5-2-0, she is now on a four fight win streak which includes three first round finishes and one in the second round. She is currently the number two ranked 155-pound lightweight fighter in the world.
Meanwhile, Brents’ record falls to 2-3-0. She is now on a three fight losing streak, following previous losses to Bobbi-Jo Dalziel and Fallon Fox.
The fight was originally scheduled to be for the inaugural women’s lightweight title, however due to a miscommunication which resulted in Sarah Patterson arriving at the weigh-ins a few minutes late, by which time the commission had already left – this was no longer the case.
Nevertheless, the victory is another big one for one of MMA’s fastest rising stars, Sarah Patterson. Tamikka Brents is no easy opponent and has previously taken the number one ranked lightweight, Bobbi-Jo Dalziel, to the third round.
Gateway Fighting Series 8: Destiny (Patterson VS Brents) took place from the Heart of St. Charles Convention Center in St. Charles, Missouri. The event will be aired at Fite.TV.
