This Monday’s RIZIN 14 event features an exciting cruiserweight bout on the main card when Gabi Garcia returns to take on Barbara Nepomuceno.
The Cruiserweight division, contested at 225-pounds, is one of the new weight-classes added to the unified rules in July 2017, bridging the gap between Light Heavyweight (205lbs) and Heavyweight (265lbs). The likes of the UFC and Bellator MMA have not yet adopted this new weight-class.
Garcia (5-0, 1 NC) is a multiple-time BJJ world champion who made the transition to MMA in late 2015. The 33-year-old Brazilian has been cleaning out the women of her division, having successfully finished the likes of Lei’D Tapa, Anna Maliukova, Veronika Futina and Destanie Yarbrough.
Nepomuceno (0-0) is a multiple-time WGP 185-pound kickboxing world champion. The 28-year-old trains at Team Big G with highly acclaimed head coach, Augusto Nasser. In 2015 she came second in the Kickboxing World Championships, with the 6″5ft heavyweight competitor, Katya Kavaleva, taking first place. Nepomuceno has made it known for quite sometime that she would like to someday fight Gabi Garcia in MMA and on Monday she finally gets her wish.
RIZIN 14 takes place this Monday December 31 from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The event will be aired live via an internet stream pay-per-view from 1am EST, more details to be announced closer to the event.
