This Friday, Bellator’s first flyweight champion will look to remain Bellator’s only flyweight champion by defending her title for the first time versus Colombia’s Alejandra “Azul” Lara.
The undefeated Hawaiin flyweight garnered media attention in 2015 after decimating “Soccer Mom” Katie Castro in her pro debut. The MMA world soon learned though that this flyweight was the real deal– undefeated in both her amateur and professional career, Macfarlane has proved to be a force to be reckoned with. In her sixth appearance for Bellator, Ilima-Lei met Emily Ducote for the second time to determine who would become the promotion’s inaugural flyweight champion. The “Iliminator” showcased some major striking improvements– holding her own on the feet until submitting Ducote via armbar in the fifth round to make history.
Bellator 201 takes place at the Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, Calif., on Friday. The main card will air live on the Paramount Network.
