Jessica Andrade aims for her return to the octagon between February or March and potentially against Carla Esparza in Brazil, since her head coach Gilliard Parana will be welcoming the birth of his son in February, Andrade told WMMA Rankings.
“He would be close to his wife and if his son were born, he could go and see him be born,” Andrade said. “A fight in Brazil would be the best option, perhaps against Esparza or Michelle Waterson.”
Waterson recently lost to Joanna Jedrzejczyk, but Andrade still sees her as a worthy opponent. Although, she always wanted a fight against Esparza, the Brazilian added.
“She’s [Esparza] evolving more and more,” Andrade said, “so with a tough opponent like her will put me back into the conversation of a title shot.”
No. 9 ranked strawweight Marina Rodriguez could be a future opponent for Andrade after her bout against No. 10 Cynthia Calvillo.
PRVT’s Parana and Rodriguez’s head coach Marcio Malko at Thai Brasil built their friendship through the years, and both gyms are managed by Top Fight Agency.
“Unfortunately, we are in the same weight division. I hope it is for the title or a very important fight,” Andrade said. “He’s [Malko] a person I like very much and his athletes are under the same management as me.”
“So, we are part of the same team. I’ll have to fight right, there is not much to choose from.”
