Last week Bellator MMA announced the signing of six new women to their 125-pound flyweight roster. UFC veteran Valerie Letourneau is no doubt the most high-profile signing from the six. She is a former title challenger who fought the current UFC strawweight champion to a five round decision, even knocking her down in the first round.
This past Monday, Letourneau revealed on The MMA Hour that she will make her Bellator MMA debut on July 14th when she battles Emily Ducote at the “Bellator 181” event. For fans who are unfamiliar with Ducote and who she is, here’s a brief rundown on one of the organization’s most talented stars.
Ducote (5-2-0), also known as “Gordinha”, is a 23-year-old fighting out of Oklahoma, United States. She trains out of ‘American Top Team OKC’ and is widely regarded as one of the best flyweights on the Bellator MMA roster. Since making her Bellator debut, she has finished all her victories within the first two rounds. Including a round two choke over Bruna Vargas, a round two armbar over Kenya Miranda and a round one choke over Katy Collins. Her sole Bellator loss comes to the organization’s highest-ranked star, Ilima-Lei Macfarlane.
Ducote feels as though she is constantly evolving as a fighter, with each fight and training camp. She’ll be looking to make a statement on July 14th by taking out a UFC veteran and cement her own legacy as one of the best flyweights in the world.
Bellator 181 takes place on July 14th from the Winstar Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma. The event will be aired live on Spike.
