History will be made this Friday when Jozette Cotton battles Sarah Patterson for the inaugural lightweight world title in the co-main event of Dynasty Combat Sports 37. The event will be aired live on FloCombat.
The 155-pound division is one of the fastest growing in the world of women’s MMA, the introduction of a belt is no doubt a big step in the right direction for the division.
Cotton (6-1) was dethroned from her number one position in the lightweight world rankings last October after dropping a unanimous decision to Bobbi-Jo Dalziel. Prior to the loss, she was on a six-fight win streak which included first-round stoppages over Elsha Cleffman and Nikita Netjes. Cotton is currently the No. 3 ranked lightweight according to the WMMA world rankings.
After an almost twelve month layoff, “The #1 Headbusta” now looks to reclaim her number-one position by taking out the current number-one and winning the inaugural lightweight world title. The 29-year-old has finished three of her six career victories, including knockouts over Kate Bloomfield and Elsha Cleffman.
In 2013, Cotton took on Nikita Netjes at the DIsorderly Conduct 17 event. The bout was stopped at 1:34 of the very first round. Take a look at the fight below.
