UFC Light Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier believes Ronda Rousey will never return to UFC dominance. He says “those days are gone”, he believes the game has evolved too much. He feels fighters like Amanda Nunes, Valentina Shevchenko and Julianna Pena are showing just how fast women’s mixed martial arts is evolving. He also claims Rousey’s skill-set is very limited. He recently spoke to TMZ sports revealing his opinion.
“Can she be the person she was a couple of years ago? I don’t believe so. This game has evolved to a point that it would be very difficult. Especially if your game is limited. Again, I love Ronda. But her boxing hasn’t seemed to improve. She doesn’t kick, I don’t think she’s ever really kicked. So to have to go out there and just really throw somebody down and grapple with them. I don’t know if that works anymore, I think that Amanda Nunes, Julianna Pena and Valentina Shevchenko. They’ve shown how much the level has gone up in female fighting in a very short period of time.”
Cormier believes Rousey can gain victories if she is matched against lower level opponents, but she won’t be finishing the fights as quick as she used to. Now that the precedent to beat her has been exposed.
“Can she go there and win some fights? Yes. Can she beat women in 10 seconds, 19 seconds, 38 seconds, I think those days are gone. That’s not happening anymore.”
