Last night at UFC 207 Ronda Rousey suffered a devastating technical knockout defeat in just 48 seconds at the hands of power striker Amanda Nunes. The fight was meant to be a grand return for the former dominant champion, who suffered the first loss of her career back in November 2015 when Holly Holm knocked her out. Rousey and her team looked visibly upset after the fight.
UFC president and long time supporter of Rousey has revealed he had a 40 to 45 minute chat with the star after her loss. He say’s she was in better spirits compared to the last time she lost. He says regardless of whether she ever comes back to MMA or not, she’s a winner for putting women’s MMA on the map.
“I went backstage after and hung out with her for probably 40 – 45 minutes. I’ll tell you this shes in better spirits this time than she was after the Holly fight, she is very competitive she does not like to lose she loves to win and she loves to do what she sets out to do. You know tonight wasn’t her night and none of this would be here without Ronda Rousey. Ronda Rousey built this, she talked me into letting women come into the UFC and it was the smartest thing I’ve ever done. So regardless of whether she comes back she doesn’t come back – she’s a winner she built this whole thing.” White said.
When asked about the possibility of Rousey ever returning, he sounded uncertain. He says Rousey is very rich and does not need to make a return.
“I don’t know. You know Ronda obviously needs to go home take some time she’s very rich she doesn’t need to fight anymore. She’s super competitive, maybe she wants to. I don’t know, we’ll see what happens.”
