Last night at UFC 207 Amanda Nunes stunned the world, defeating Ronda Rousey in 48 seconds of the very first round via a TKO.
In the lead-up to the fight fans were quick to notice that champion Amanda Nunes was receiving very little promotion as compared to former champ Ronda Rousey. Even UFC commentator Joe Rogan hit out at the decision to not promote the champion.
During the post-fight show White spoke about the issue.
“Everyone was chirping about the promotion for this fight, it was all Ronda based,” White said. “I could have spent $100 million on advertising and nobody would still have known who Amanda was. After tonight, everyone knows who Amanda Nunes is now, OK? Tomorrow morning, ask somebody who Amanda Nunes is, now they know. That’s why I’m the promoter and everyone else isn’t.”
Rousey is now on a two-fight losing streak after previously being knocked out by Holly Holm back in November 2015. Nunes meanwhile is on a five fight winning streak, which includes four first round finishes.
Valentina Schevchenko is set to take on Julianna Pena on January 28th 2017 in the main event of UFC on Fox 23. It’s very likely the winner of the bout will be the next to challenge Nunes for the bantamweight title.
