Cyborg recruits former Holly Holm opponent, Mia St. John, for #UFC219 camp

Cristiane Justino has joined forces with Mia St. John, a former boxing opponent of Holly Holm, to help her prepare for her featherweight title defense against “The Preacher’s Daughter” at UFC 219 in December.

On The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg revealed that she is brining in boxer Mia St. John, who fought Holm in boxing in 2005, to help her prepare for the highly anticipated bout.

“Yeah, we’re gonna start training this week,” Cyborg told Helwani. “I feel ready, I train hard, I’m excited for this fight.”

Cyborg and St. John are teaming together to prepare for the biggest fight of Cyborg’s career and to raise awareness for mental health.

  1. One would think if Cris was going to bring in a boxer to train with it would be the one that cleaned Holly’s clock, Anne Sophie Mathis. However, Mia was able to go the distance with Holly, as was most everyone else, so between her and Cyborg’s training with Shields, Cris should be amply prepared to handle Holly. If I was Holly, I would be begging my mgt. team to see if they could match me up with Amanda instead. If the Holm/Cyborg fight does go through, one must really admire Holly’s courage.
