Cris Cyborg (17-1, 1 NC) will finally get a shot to fight for a UFC championship in the co-main event of UFC 214 in Anaheim, California. While she is not overlooking her opponent Tonya Evinger (17-5, 1 NC) in the least, she is considering all possibilities for future match-ups in the newly established featherweight division. One name that is consistently thrown around the title mix in both the bantamweight and featherweight division is former 135 pound champ, Holly Holm (11-3). Cyborg recently told Ariel Hewlani on The MMA Hour that that is a fight she is most certainly down for.
Regarding a future fight with Holly Holm, Cris said;
I had already accepted to fight holly when Ronda fought Cat Zingano. I accepted to fight her in Curitiba at 140 (pounds). I accepted to fight her in Brasilia for the main event. I asked for her before she fight Bethe Correia, and then when Megan Anderson pulled out, I felt it was a good opportunity to fight her. I think a fight with her will be great for all of the fans. She’s already fought at 145 with de Randamie, they say she lost, but she won. If this makes opportunity for her to fight with me I dont know. She just won against Bethe Correia and think she is the biggest name for the next fight. And I think she is a great fighter. I think it will be really nice.
Holm got back on the winning track following three straight losses with a question mark kick knockout over Bethe Correia a few weeks back in UFC Singapore. Holm has primarily fought at 135 in during her MMA career, but she’s expressed willingness to fight in both the featherweght and bantamweght divisions should the opportunity arise.
Cyborg will meet the aforementioned Tonya Evinger in California later this month to fight for the vacant featherweight title.
Is this a good fight to make?
