Cris Cyborg vs Yana Kunitskaya official for #UFC222

A featherweight championship match between Cris Cyborg and Yana Kunitskaya has officially been booked as the UFC 222 headliner.

Cyborg looks to make the second defense of her featherweight title.

Cyborg (19-1, 1 NC) looks to make the second successful defense of her featherweight title. She won the belt last July, knocking out Tonya Evinger in the third-round. The Brazilian went on to defend the belt this past December, earning a unanimous decision victory over Holly Holm.

Kunitskaya (10-3, 1 NC) will be making her first appearance for the UFC following a run with Invicta FC which ended with her winning the organization’s bantamweight title this past August. The 28-year-old currently trains at JacksonWink MMA, owning notable wins over Cindy Dandois and Raquel Pa’aulhi.

UFC 222 takes place on March 3 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The main card will be aired live on pay-per-view from 10pm EST.

  1. Eventually one of these undersized chicks will get lucky. Meanwhile Cyborg continues as “champion” of a division which exists only on paper.

    1. Yana is at least the same height as Holly Holm — I couldn’t find any other specific details on reach etc — but has apparently fought equally as often at Featherweight as at Bantamweight, though 135 was apparently always a huge struggle for her; going to 145 was a stipulation of her UFC acceptance, though I can’t find written evidence of this currently either. But she’s meant to be a big girl, and that’s what we want/Cyborg needs.
