This Saturday’s UFC 232 PPV event is co-headlined by a highly anticipated featherweight title showdown when Cris Cyborg attempts to defend her belt against Amanda Nunes.
Cyborg (20,1, 1 NC) will look to make the the third defense of her UFC featherweight title after winning the belt by defeating Tonya Evinger in July 2017 and then going on to successfully defend it against Holly Holm and Yana Kunitskaya. The 33-year-old owns additional promotional wins over Lina Lansberg and Leslie Smith. Prior to joining the UFC, Cyborg had successfully captured the Invicta FC and Strikeforce featherweight titles and has defeated the likes of Gina Carano, Marloes Coenen and Shayna Baszler. The powerful Brazilian is considered by most to be the pound-for-pound greatest female MMA fighter of all time.
Nunes (16-4), the reigning bantamweight champion, moves up to featherweight in a bid to become the first ever female two-weight champion in the UFC. The 30-year-old captured the bantamweight title after submitting Miesha Tate in the main event of UFC 200 back in July 2016, she’s gone on to defend the belt against Ronda Rousey, Valentina Shevchenko and Raquel Pennington. ‘The Lioness’ owns additional notable career victories over the likes of Germaine de Randamie and Julia Budd.
UFC 232 takes place this Saturday December 29 from The Forum in Inglewood, California, United States. The main card featuring Cyborg vs. Nunes will be aired live on pay-per-view from 10pm EST.
