On Sunday, UFC superstar Cris Cyborg spoke about when her next fight could be and who she is hoping to face.
Speaking on social media, the Brazilian posted a photo of herself and the Invicta FC featherweight champion Megan Anderson. On the post, the 31-year-old wrote “July 29 champion vs. champion.” (Scroll down to see the original post).
UFC 214 is scheduled to take place on July 29th from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. It has long been rumored that the featherweight queen will compete at this event.
It appears Cyborg does indeed want to fight at the event and is hoping for Invicta FC champ, Megan Anderson. Australia’s Anderson (8-2) won the interim title this past January, after defeating Charmaine Tweet via second round TKO. Since then, Cyborg relinquished the Invicta featherweight title, resulting in Anderson becoming the champion.
Meanwhile, Cyborg (17-1) has been making headlines this past week due to her issues with other fighters.
Last weekend, at the UFC Athlete Retreat, “Cyborg” assaulted UFC strawweight Angela Magana after Magana had made fun of her appearance on social media. Since the incident, Magana has pressed charges against Cyborg. The UFC has yet to announce whether or not they will punish “Cyborg” for her actions. The Brazilian is expected to appear in court in the near future.
This past week, Germaine de Randamie’s manager announced that the UFC featherweight champion refuses to defend her title against Cyborg because of her past use of performance-enhancing drugs. Cyborg immediately responded with an official statement.
