The Brazilian is considered one of the most feared and dominant fighters in women’s MMA history. However, despite her highlight reel performances and almost perfect professional record, she was overshadowed by Ronda Rousey for a very long duration of her career. The two rivals showed extreme dislike towards each other in the press, with a fight between the pair being teased as the biggest possible fight in women’s MMA history.
Things have changed over the last few years however. Rousey looks to be finished with the sport for good after losing back-to-back fights by way of brutal knockouts against Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes.
Holm, who brutally knocked out Rousey with a head kick in November 2015, will challenge Cyborg for the women’s featherweight title at UFC 219 next month in hopes of becoming a two-division champ. Cyborg believes that due to Holm’s dominant win over Rousey in 2015, beating her at UFC 219 will also count as a victory over Rousey.
“I think if I beat Holly I will beat Ronda the same day,” Cyborg told Ariel Helwani on a recent edition of the MMA Hour. “I feel like that because Holly fought Ronda and when that fight happened, Dana said if Ronda beat Holly next fight would be Cyborg. Then Holly stopped Ronda before that, she beat Ronda and it’s simple to think about it. It’s simple, she beat Ronda and I never had the opportunity to fight Ronda. So I think I am going to beat both the same night.”
