Thursday night at the “Combate Clasico” event, highly touted atomweight contender Kyra Batara made a successful return to the cage by submitting Vanessa Rico at 3:45 of the second round by way of an armbar.
Batara, also known as “Mogwai”, improves her record to 6-4-0. The victory marks her fourth for the Combate Americas organization. The 22-year-old owns notable victories over the likes of Jenny Silverio, Liz McCarthy, Celine Haga and Nicdalia Rivera-Calanoc. She believes she is the best atomweight fighter in the world and feels as though she has made dramatic improvements to her MMA game since when she first started as a professional.
Rico’s falls to 2-3-0. She is now on a two-fight losing streak, following a first round submission loss to Gina Iniong back in January 2016.
Combate Clasico took place from the Wynwood Convention Center in Miami, Florida, United States.
