Friday night at Combate Americas 14, a new star emerged in the 105-pound division when Sheila Padilla submitted the number-nine ranked atomweight fighter in the world, Alyssa Garcia, in the very first round by way of an Armbar.
Padilla improves her record to 3-1-0. The victory is no doubt a big win for the 35-year-old in her atomweight debut and it could see her enter the atomweight world rankings in the next update. She previously competed as a strawweight and flyweight and made her atomweight debut at the event. She believes she is the best in the world at 105-pounds.
Garcia is now 3-3-0 in her professional MMA career. She saw her popularity skyrocket following a big victory on December 29th over top ten ranked atomweight, Kanna Asakura. The win put Garcia at number nine in the Women’s MMA World Rankings at atomweight. She was quickly snapped up by Combate Americas, and made her debut for the organization in February, taking out Kaiyana Rain. Her previous losses came to the number-eight ranked Julia Jones and the much larger strawweight competitor, Celine Haga.
