Alyssa Garcia and Sheila Padilla have successfully made weight for Friday’s eagerly anticipated atomweight showdown at Combate Americas 14. Garcia weighed in at 116-pounds, whilst Padilla came in at 105.7 pounds.
Combate’s highest ranked star, Garcia (3-2-0) saw her popularity skyrocket following a big victory on December 29th over top ten ranked atomweight, Kanna Asakura. The win put Garcia at number nine in the Women’s MMA World Rankings at atomweight. She was quickly snapped up by Combate Americas, and made her debut for the organization in February, taking out Kaiyana Rain. Her sole career losses come to the number-eight ranked Julia Jones and the much larger 115-pound strawweight competitor,
Padilla (2-1-0) will be making the move down to the 105-pound division, following a stint at 115. She is coming off the first loss of her career, after being knocked out by Keri Melendez at Bellator 165 back in November. She feels she will be able to perform at a much higher level as an atomweight. Her two career victories come by way of unanimous decision over Corina Herrera and Jessica Sanchez. She will be looking to make a statement by taking out a top-ten ranked atomweight fighter in her Combate and atomweight debut.
