This Friday, Combate Americas will host a big fight in the 105-pound atomweight division when popular top-ten ranked contender, Alyssa Garcia, returns to action to take on former Bellator MMA star, Sheila Padilla. The pair will battle at the “Combate Americas 14” event.
Garcia (3-2-0) saw her popularity skyrocket following a big victory on December 29th over top ten ranked atomweight, Kanna Asakura. The win put Garcia at number nine in the Women’s MMA World Rankings at atomweight. She was quickly snapped up by Combate Americas, and made her debut in February, taking out Kaiyana Rain.
She begun her Pro MMA career eager to fight the best in the world. She has a very close split decision loss to number eight ranked atomweight, the undefeated Julia Jones. She also has a loss to 115 pound strawweight Celine Haga in a fight which she was severely undersized. The December win over Kanna Asakura, as well as her continued success speaks volumes for the potential she possesses to become the best in the world.
Padilla (2-1-0) will be making the move down to the 105-pound division, following a stint at 115. She is coming off the first loss of her career, after being knocked out by Keri Melendez at Bellator 165 back in November. She feels she will be able to perform at a much higher level as an atomweight. Her two career victories come by way of unanimous decision over Corina Herrera and Jessica Sanchez. She will be looking to make a statement by taking out a top-ten ranked atomweight fighter in her Combate and atomweight debut.
