This Friday, Combate Americas will host a big fight in the 105-pound atomweight division when former Bellator MMA star, Sheila Padilla, makes not only her Combate debut but also her 105-pound debut when she takes on the number-nine ranked atomweight fighter in the world, Alyssa Garcia. The pair will battle at the “Combate Americas 14” event.
Padilla (2-1-0) believes she has been undersized against women who are currently competing at strawweight and flyweight. She feels as though she is capable of performing at a much higher level at 105-pounds. She made her mixed martial arts debut in April 2016 taking out Jessica Sanchez-Birch by way of unanimous decision, she followed up in August with another decision win over Corina Herrera. However, she lost out to the bigger opponent in Keri Melendez at Bellator 165.
The 35-year-old fights out of California and currently trains at Team Elite Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai. She prepares for the biggest fight of her career this Saturday against the number-nine ranked atomweight fighter in the world, Alyssa Garcia.
Garcia (3-2-0) picked up one of the biggest upsets of 2016 when she took out a high-ranked veteran in Kanna Asakura back at the RIZIN event in December. This victory cemented Garcia’s place as one of the best atomweight fighters in the world. She followed up with a victory over Kaiyana Rain at the Combate Americas 11 event in February.
