Coach wants early 2020 return for Holly Holm, reveals the opponent he has in mind

Mike Winkeljohn of Jackson-Wink MMA has revealed that he expects Holly Holm to return to the cage in early 2020 and already has an opponent in mind.

Holm (12-5-0) is coming off a knockout loss to Amanda Nunes at the UFC 239 event this past July. The 38-year-old was scheduled to return to the cage in October to face Raquel Pennington, however the bout was cancelled after Holm suffered an injury.

Early next year. She ripped a lot of muscle of her tendon working out one day and it is one of those injuries that you need to let heal,” Winkeljohn told “We will be seeing her soon.”

Upon Holm’s return in early 2020, Winkeljohn reveals he’d like the opponent to be Aspen Ladd.

Aspen Ladd would be great, we would love that fight,” he explained. “Especially after what she said when Holm got the title fight and that fight never happened. So, Holly would love would to get into the cage with that young lady. I don’t know, Raquel Pennington is still there.”

Ultimately, Winkeljohn is more confident in his fighter than ever despite recent setbacks.

She moved up to the heavier weight class before for two world titles, and that is what Holly does. People don’t understand, she only had a handful of fights before she fought for world titles in the UFC then moved up out of her weight class to fight for titles. I’m sick and tired of hearing, ‘oh she has some losses’, but who else in the UFC has done that? She has stepped up and fought anyone at whatever weight,” he concluded.

Fight fans, are you excited for Holm’s return to the cage? Would you like to see the fight against Aspen Ladd? Let us know in the comments section below.

  1. It’s true though, she has stepped up to everybody they give her and never backs down from anyone. She’s a warrior.

I would like to see her face Julianna Peña instead of Aspen Ladd, or move up again and fight Felicia Spencer.

  2. Winkeljohn is correct. It’s looking worse than it is because she’s only losing to the very elite fighters like Tate, Shevchenko, Cyborg and Nunes. Even so it’s five losses now in her last seven fights. So she definitely needs a win.
