This Saturday’s UFC 231 event features an intriguing strawweight bout on the preliminary card when former title challenger Claudia Gadelha returns to take on Nina Ansaroff.
Gadelha (16-3) has gone 3-1 since unsuccessfully challenging Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the strawweight title back in July 2016. The 29-year-old has defeated Cortney Casey, Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Carla Esparza, but lost a unanimous decision to Jessica Andrade. Also known as ‘Claudinha’, Gadelha is currently ranked number-four in the WMMA World Rankings and number-three in the UFC’s contender rankings.
Ansaroff (9-5) hasn’t lost a fight in nearly three years and is coming off impressive wins over Randa Markos, Angela Hill and Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger. The 32-year-old American Top Team standout looks to pick up the biggest win of her career on Saturday by taking out a former title challenger in Gadelha and inserting herself as a contender for the 115-pound belt in the hopes of joining her girlfriend, Amanda Nunes, as a UFC world champion. ‘The Strina’ is currently ranked at number-eleven in the UFC’s contender rankings.
UFC 231 takes place this Saturday December 8 from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The preliminary card featuring Gadelha vs. Ansaroff will be aired live on Fox Sports 1 from 8pm EST.
