To the excitement of fight fans all over the world, the UFC has officially announced a clash of top Brazilian contenders in the strawweight division for UFC Japan later this year. UFC brass followed Claudia Gadelha’s Instagram call out of Jessica Andrade by confirming the bouts booking via their official website.
Claudia Gadelha (15-2) enters the bout riding a high with back-to-back wins over Cortney “Cast Iron” Casey and former title challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz. She last defeated Kowalkiewicz via first round submission back in June to cement herself as the top strawweight fighter not named Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
Jessica Andrade (16-6) had a dominant three-fight win streak snapped by Joanna Champion in May at UFC 211. Her win streak included a second round TKO of Jessica Penne, a first round guillotine submission over Joanne Calderwood and a unanimous decision win over former Invicta FC strawweight champion Angela Hill.
Gadelha is ranked number one in UFC’s official media rankings, and number two in WMMA Ranking’s strawweight rankings. Andrade is ranked the number four contender by the UFC, and number five by WMMA Rankings.
