Gadelha (15-3) looks to rebound from a unanimous decision loss to fellow Brazilian Jessica Andrade at last September’s UFC Fight Night 117 event. The 29-year-old, also known as “Claudinha”, was on a two-fight win streak before the defeat which included an impressive first-round submission win over Karolina Kowalkiewicz. She owns additional notable wins over the likes of Valerie Letourneau, Cortney Casey, Jessica Aguilar and Ayaka Hamasaki.
Esparza (13-4) has won three of her last four with the one loss coming by way of a controversial split decision to Randa Markos. The 30-year-old, also known as “The Cookie Monster”, is a former UFC strawweight champion and believes she’s made significant improvements to her game since losing the belt to Joanna Jedrzejczyk in 2015. The 30-year-old owns victories over some of the most notable fighters in the world including Rose Namajunas, Felice Herrig and Cynthia Calvillo.
UFC 225 takes place this Saturday June 9 from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, United States. The preliminary card featuring Gadelha vs. Esparza will be aired live on Fox Sports 1 from 8pm EST.
