Claudia Gadelha reveals she went into UFC 225 fight with a strained ligament in her knee, says it got worse after first round

UFC strawweight Claudia Gadelha has revealed she went into her UFC 225 fight against Carla Esparza with a strained ligament in her knee which got worse after the first-round.

Gadelha went into UFC 225 bout with knee injury.

Gadelha (16-3) was victorious at UFC 225, picking up a very close split decision win. The 29-year-old has since revealed she went into the fight with an injury which almost prompted her to pull out.

I didn’t want to pull out of the fight, but on Monday of last week I strained a ligament knee and the posterior thigh muscle and went there to fight for you,” Gadelha said. “Now I’ll take care and come back stronger.

Big thanks to all my coaches, teammates, friends, family and specially this awesome lady Heather Linden that helped me to fight with a strained ligament on my knee.” she continued on her social media pages.

It seems the injury got worse after the first-round as immediately following the fight, Gadelha took to her Instagram story to post “I blew my knee in the first round“.

  1. I had it narrowly in Esparza’s favor. Had the first round even, the second round in Gadelha’s favor, but felt that the third round was strongly in Carla’s favor so made it 10-8. I would not have given the same performance a 10-8 in round 1 or 2. Good thing I’m not a judge.

  2. always good to have an excuse ready. Esparza won this fight. imo round 1 was 10-10 or 9-9, but even. round 2 10-9 Esparza and no possible debate round 3 10-9 Esparza.

    1. Hmmm. It appeared pretty clear to me that round 2 was clearly Gadelha’s round. I guess fights, like beauty, are in the eyes of the beholder.
