Cynthia Calvillo: “You guys are in for a treat”

This Sunday, budding star Cynthia Calvillo (5-0) will look to continue her meteoric rise in the strawweight division as she takes on Scotland’s own, Joanne Calderwood (11-2). Two fights into her UFC career, and only five fights into her professional career,  Calvillo has already found herself a spot in the top fifteen. JoJo Calderwood: “You’re in for a hell of a night in Glasgow”

Arguably Joanne Calderwood’s (11-2)  best performance in the UFC was at Fight Night 89 in Ontario, Canada when she TKO’d Valerie Letourneau in round three of what was the first ever UFC women’s flyweight bout. Unfortunately, for a while after that fight the UFC showed little to no interest in developing the women’s 125 division. Months later, and just days after JoJo signed a bout agreement against Cynthia Calvillo in Calderwood’s homeland of Scotland, the UFC announced that season 26 of TUF would introduce the flyweight division. What’s next for the women of #TUF25Finale?

To get International Fight Week started inside the octagon, TUF 25 Finale featured two exciting bouts in the women’s strawweight division. To open the FS1 preliminary card, Tecia Torres met Juliana Lima. The first round was back and forth in the second round Torres found her way to the back of Lima, scoring the first finish of her pro career by submitting Lima with a deep RNC. Later on in the night, TUF 23 Team Joanna alum Ashley Yoder faced former Invicta FC strawweight champion Angela Hill.
