Cat Zingano details eye damage following UFC 232

“Alpha” Cat Zingano’s featherweight debut versus Megan Anderson at UFC 232 ended in an unusual and unfortunate way.About a minute into the first round, Anderson threw a head kick– though the kick didn’t land flush, the big toe of Anderson poked directly into the eye of Zingano.

It was a scary moment– the ultra durable Zingano kept her eyes closed as referee Marc Goddard waved off the bout.

The official ruling goes down as a TKO victory for Anderson. Zingano was treated backstage at the arena for an eyelid laceration.

On Monday, Zingano spoke to Ariel Helwani on Ariel Hewlani’s MMA Show about the extent of the damage.

“I have a damaged iris, damaged retina, hemorrhage in the back of my eye, increased glove pressure and of course the laceration. They want me back at the doctor every three to four days to make sure there’s no detachment on the retina.”

“Right now, they have to keep it dilated and on steroids for the next two weeks to keep the pressure down.

Zingano says there is no current timeline for her return to action, though doctors believe she will make a full recovery.

At the end of the day, we are glad that Zingano is okay. We wish Cat a speedy and full recovery!

  1. I’d like to see a rematch if Cat recovers 100%. I’ve never seen or heard of that happening before in MMA so it was genuinely a black swan event.
