Carla Esparza reflects on UFC 219 win and her significant striking improvements

Carla Esparza picked up a big win at last night’s UFC 219 event, earning a unanimous decision victory over the highly-touted, Cynthia Calvillo.

Esparza is ready to reclaim her UFC strawweight title.

Esparza (13-4-0) is a former UFC strawweight champion who owns notable victories over Rose Namajunas, Felice Herrig, Tecia Torres (TUF) and Angela Hill (TUF). The 30-year-old is continuing to evolve as a fighter and has made significant improvements to her striking game. In 2018, she prepares to make a run at becoming a 2-time UFC strawweight champion.

“The Cookie Monster” reflected on the big win on her social media pages.

In an interview they asked me if there was something unique about my training I wanted to tell them… I said yea, I’ve been with the same coach Colin Oyama for over a decade, my whole career. There is a weird culture in MMA to cross train so many places and switch gyms, but I’ve never felt i had to. To this day I am constantly learning so many things and trying to evolve my game. So lucky to have you Coach, IMO best in the game. Love you coach.” Esparza wrote.
