Flyweight Brogan “Killer Bee” Sanchez (6-1) steps in on two-weeks notice after Stephanie Geltmacher’s COVID-19 pending results.
Sanchez takes on Erin “Cold-Blooded” Blanchfield (5-1) at the Invicta FC 41 co-main event on Thursday night. Before accepting this bout, the UFC offered her a fight to step in for Miranda Maverick and fight Mara Romero Borella on June 27.
“As a professional athlete, sadly, it’s not like a baseball game or anything like that. Where it’s on the calendar annually,” Sanchez said. “When you’re a mixed martial artist, they call you. In June, I got the call from the UFC, but with a four-day notice.
While I was sharp, my weight wasn’t where I wanted it to be. I couldn’t risk missing weight on my debut, looking unprofessional. I stayed ready, but I also played my cards right. I was in a position to help out the organization, but I had to put myself first and think about my career.”
Sanchez got a win over Maverick back in 2018 at Invicta FC 30. She suffered her first loss against Pearl Gonzalez in October, but she grew within the fight.
“My last fight was hard-fought. I’m not going to say it was a close fight, but I went all [three] rounds,” Sanchez said. “I reversed a lot of positions, and I adapted a lot during the fight. I think it’s really about having the cardio, so you can get that respiration and heart rate down so that your mind is working a little bit more clear.”
“Killer Bee” Sanchez saw this Invicta FC fight card as a great opportunity since she’s coming off her first loss. She made a countdown to make sure she could make weight, she added.
Sanchez will make her fourth Invicta FC appearance on Thursday night. Invicta FC 41 begins at 8 p.m. ET on UFC Fight Pass.
